Individual & Couple Counselling
Counselling can help you change and adjust to your current social situation by empowering you to respond differently to stressful situations whether at work or at home. The counsellor will work with you to make changes in your behaviour and response to others. Dealing with stress and personal difficulties can lead to the resolution of problems and a healthier life. Counselling usually lasts between 6 to 20 sessions. This approach can work well with couples given that both partners are seeking genuine alternatives in how they relate.
Psychotherapy for Individuals
Psychotherapy usually encompasses a longer period than counselling. It requires you to commit to the process of working through the issues that prevent you from getting what you want in life. Often dealing with problems from the past, you will engage with the therapist to understand and to change unhelpful patterns of behaviour, beliefs and feelings so that your life may be more fulfilled and complete, and sometimes to answer the question: “who am I?”.
The therapist will be willing to agree a time limited contract, usually for six weeks, for you to explore whether you wish to commit to the process of psychotherapy.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is a powerful alternative to working one-to-one. In a group you can take the space to work on resolving your issues in a supportive and enhancing place. You can experiment with responses and behaviours that might seem too great a risk in the outside world. You can then use this experience to respond and behave differently at home and at work.
We expect clients to have done some individual work before joining a group. Different group formats and duration are offered from time to time. Please enquire as to whether there are currently vacancies in a group.
Assessment Meeting
We offer a free assessment meeting to all potential clients. The purpose of this meeting is mutual; it is for you to decide whether you want to work with this therapist and it is for the therapist to ensure that she or he has the resources to work with the issues presented.
In the event that you decide that for any reason you do not want to work with a particular counsellor, please ask for an alternative referral; if for any reason the counsellor thinks it is inappropriate to work with you she or he will offer to refer you to an alternative counsellor.
At the conclusion of the assessment meeting you can arrange for further sessions.
Referral
In addition to self-referrals, we also accept referrals from doctors and other professionals.
Duration & Cost
It is not necessary to know what type of work you wish to undertake before meeting the therapist. The initial meeting is often an exploration of what you, the client, needs. Our therapists will normally offer to work for a time limited period, perhaps six weeks, to make this exploration. For some clients this will be sufficient time, for others there will be a mutual agreement to continue the work for an appropriate period.
The Cost for Individual Counselling & Psychotherapy is £45 - £55 for a 50 minute session.
Couple Counselling costs from £50 for a 50 minute session.
The cost of Group Therapy is £28 for a two hour session. Longer Group sessions are charged on a pro rata basis.
